Dressin for a Day with Dior
Considering the fact that this is the first Monday in May, the who’s who of the fashion world will be converging on New York City and heading to that world-renowned Manhattan landmark where art and fashion resides. Yes, I’m speaking of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which will host the annual Met Gala, notably the biggest night in fashion. Known for its somewhat quirky, irreverent and always fashion forward themes, this year promises to be no exception. The theme being Camp: Notes on Fashion. I unfortunately, simply, don’t feel like going to the Gala this year. Perhaps it’s because I’m wintering in the mountains and am not in the mood to jet off to New York City on such short notice, perhaps it’s because all of my haute couture evening gowns are inaccessible (okay) totally non-existent. But perhaps its most certainly from a sheer lack of invitation: yep, that’s probably the most prevalent reason, lol!
That’s okay though, I’ve decided to make the most of my fashion obscurity by raiding my own fashion archives and delving into my most recent fashion/art excursion; The Dior, from Paris to the World Exhibit at the Denver Art Museum. I figure that Dior will most definitely be in attendance at the Met Gala, worn on the red carpet by the fashion elite, considering that the label is one of the most coveted and well-known in the world of haute couture fashion. Well they can have him for the night, I got to spend an entire day with him, and let me tell you it was like being in the presence of fashion royalty; This is “Dressin for a Day with Dior.”
What does one wear to an exhibition of the man who invented the “new look?” The answer is something new of course, and it never hurts to bet on black, a Dior staple. Now I wish that I could have paid a proper tribute and shown up bespoked in Dior from head to toe, but sadly my funds would not permit such indulgences. So, I opted for an LBT (or Little Black Trench) cinched at the waist with a leather obi-styled belt and accessorized the rest of the outfit with a jaunty beret and black leather high-heeled booties.
My brunch this week was rich, decadent and French influenced, considering I didn’t have to watch the calories to fit into priceless couture, I indulged. I had a brie and wild mushroom stuffed croissant with asparagus, Moet and Chandon French champagne and a sampling of simply divine French pastries. Palmier, cream puffs, Napoleons and a peach melba torte fit for a fine Parisian high tea.
Well I’d better be off for now; it’s been such an eventful day, I’m spent. I plan to retire to somewhere quiet, mist the air with my Jadore perfume, float off in the delicious bubbly haze of my champagne while humming La Vien Rose. I just adore all things French, and I Jadore Dior!!!
PS. I Can’t wait to see the looks from the Met Gala red carpet this evening.
PPS. Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on a healthy and no doubt beautiful baby boy!
