Dressin for a day at Disneyland
Dressin for a Day at Disneyland
While packing for my first trip to Disneyland, I was reminded of a commercial from a while back. I can’t remember the details exactly, however, from what I can remember it was two young siblings talking to each other about their upcoming trip to a Disney Park and all the things that they were going to see and do there. The parents called out to them to go to sleep and one child responded, “I’m too excited to sleep!” In the next scene one parent asked the other if they were asleep and the spouse responded “No, I’m too excited.” Well that is exactly how I feel right now, this is “Dressin for a day at DISNEYLAND!!!”
Growing up, Disney movies were a big part of my life, The Little Mermaid being my all-time favorite, with A Goofy Movie coming in at a close second, and Beauty and the Beast taking the bronze metal in third. For my kids, the movies played on repeat were Mulan, Toy Story and A Bug’s Life and now presently my godson is obsessed with The Incredibles, The Emperor’s New Groove and Moana. Since Disney has been so impactful to myself and my family, it’s no wonder why I am as giddy as a school girl upon entering the gates to the magic kingdom for the very first time!
Our tour guide first showed us the Firehouse where Walt Disney himself resided right on the Disneyland grounds. I then made a B-line to the Mad Hatter store in the Disney Town center to get my iconic Mickey Mouse Clubhouse hat with my name customized on the back in the trademark gold embroidery threaded letters, an item that I have wanted since I was a little kid (never mind how long ago that was). When I walked throw Disney Town center and saw the castle in the distance for the first time, it honestly sent chills through me.
My first park stop and favorite land was Adventureland home of the Tiki Room and its world famous Dole Whip, which tasted of the best and most refreshing pineapple sherbet that I’ve ever eaten; it would have been perfect with one of my signature champagnes, because it would have surely made the most delicious tropical mimosa. However, considering that the park is dry, I opted to keep all of my meals G-rated by going alcohol-free on my at home brunch as well. Believe me, I was already plenty buzzed from the excitement of being at Disneyland in the first place, no cocktail required. My all-time favorite rides were also found in Adventureland those being the Indiana Jones Adventure and the Pirates of the Caribbean, I’ve always been a fan of both movie franchises and I got a real kick out of the 4-D ride and seeing Caption Jack Sparrow and his crew of animatronic miscreants indulging in a ruckus good time.
Culinarily speaking, I don’t even know where to start with the food, from turkey legs to the signature Mickey-shaped beignets, every meal was better than the last. Considering as I mentioned before I’ve watched Toy Story about a hundred times. I had a blast (pun intended) by being able to eat at Pizza Planet, the eatery that Andy was obsessed with in the movie. I loved the cheeseburger pizza and was impressed by how delicious the alien shaped macaroon was, usually its my experience that things like this are only designed to look good however this was quite tasty as well. I kept the Disney magic alive at home with my souvenir breakfast; Mickey-shaped waffles and a few of the items I got from my trip, are all rounded out with my favorite Minnie Mouse mug, which was a former Mother’s Day gift from my kiddos.
When it came to my outfits, I think its clear to see that I’m a traditional Mickey girl all the way, right down to the tuxedo jacket with tails (maybe he is the inspiration behind my current love for a good tuxedo jacket, I honestly can’t resist them.) This is one of my all-time favorite looks, my red “Straight Outta Disney” shirt paired with distressed blue jeans and a pop of color from the gold scarf. The best part of this look was the Minnie Mouse inspired red t-strap pumps complete with a bow at the heel. I honestly think Minnie herself would wear them, but I’m pretty sure she doesn’t wear a size 7. The first time I saw them, I basically put the entire outfit together in my mind and had so much fun making this look into a reality. Thankfully my actual park outfit was far more comfortable complete with my gray Mickey t-shirt, black stretch jeans and my shell toe super-star Adidas sneakers. I was set and ready for a full day of Disney adventure from land to land and food-stand to food-stand, at this historic theme park.
Well that’s it for me for now, I’ll leave you with the last image I captured in Disneyland, a view of the Castle all lit up at night. Thanks again Walt, it really was as magical as promised. With inspiration from the words of the iconic Mickey Mouse Clubhouse closing song,
“M-I-C cya later, K-E-Y why because I need a nap, M-O-U-S-E”
Best trip ever!!
PS. Looks like my godson needed a nap as well : )
