Paleolithic Dressin
Hey everyone Asha Monique here and yes we're going prehistoric this week with “Paleolithic Dressin,” as in the earliest period of the stone age. Speaking of other prehistoric events, the very first thing I ever wanted to be when I grew up was a paleontologist. Although I had no idea what the scientific term actually was at the time. I just knew that I wanted to dig up dinosaurs. Somewhere along the way of growing up my paleolithic pursuit fell by the way-side; probably about the same time that I started to pay much closer attention to the boys that were digging along side of me in the sandbox. Awh the naivety of youth. However, thanks to the magic of Hollywood my first love was rekindled in the Jurassic Park franchise. And now the release of the fifth movie in the series "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom" has given me motivation to dust off my replica saber-tooth tiger skull, go to a prehistoric playground and do some pretend dino-digging of my own, yay!
I call this big fella (above) Tee-RX and we had a ball this week. Really I'll use any excuse to throw on overalls and play in the dirt, especially when it's this much fossil fun. I consider this outfit the latest in paleo pret-a-porter; consisting of ultra comfy khaki capri overalls, a matching faux leather backpack, bronze & abalone shell jewelry, and to complete this excavations' ensemble it's all set off by my favorite high heeled hiking boots. I was thrilled that Netflix added the first three Jurassic movies to its line up, and I had a blast digging out the dinosaur themed books from my personal library. I used these media resources as fuel to put me in a Stone Age state of mind.
Brunch this week has a paleolithic inspiration, but is not to be confused with the ultra popular diet that has become famous around the world. Although the meal itself would be considered paleo approved featuring a steak kabob and dragon fruit salad, the cocktail and treats however would be a dino-sized no no; showcasing pudding parfaits, cream horns, choco rocks, faux fossil mini-cheese danish, and homemade fossilized snickerdoodles, yum! This was my first time ever trying dragon fruit, and I really enjoyed it's mild kiwi flavor. I made a "Sweet Dragon Mimosa" that contains crushed dragon fruit, with pineapple juice, a splash of hot-sauce for heat and topped it off with champagne (cheers!)
I also unearthed my old, dogged eared, and much beloved copy of "The Ultimate Book of Kid Concoctions" written by John and Danita Thomas, that I resourced for fossil eggs (made from used coffee grounds) that housed little toy dinosaurs. I still love all the crafts in this book and want to thank the authors for the countless hours of fun that we have had with the crafts and projects contained inside. Well that about wraps up Paleolithic Dressin; Can you dig it, I sure did! Catch you next time.
